Chuck at Paley Fest
So I headed to Paley Fest tonight and here are some of my notes. Sat in the front row of the balcony level looking straight at the cast with my pink Chucks perched on the railing and had a great time! I'm sure people will have better write-ups online later but this is just what I remember. Also I got a free Nerd Herder shirt that they were handing out and will try and post pics of it later. Oh, and below "Josh" is Schwartz and "Gomez" is...um...Josh Gomez. Yeah, I'm that smart. ;)

-- Moderated by Damon Lindenhof of Lost. Yes, really.

-- Chris Fedak knew the first person he wanted was Adam, and Zach and Adam tested with the network the same day.

-- Zach had full beard and Gomez had a little soul patch so they "switched" beards. Zach said it wasn't a strike beard but that he just doesn't like to shave. He said it would be cool if Chuck kept it. So Josh asked the audience if he should keep it or lose it and the audience said lose it. Sorry, Zach.

-- Pilot included a character named Kayla who was Chuck's neighbor that he had a crush on. They ended up cutting her to make the Chuck/Sarah storyline better. The love story opened up when the actor was cut. Also, Kayla worked at the club Chuck took Sarah to and he took her there to make Kayla jealous at first.

-- Spy world vs. Buy More/home -- Captain Awesome doesn't want to be in the spy world because he thinks that would mean he's killed. Gomez loves how Casey goes 100% in both worlds with busting spies and selling grills.

-- Someone joked about Adam having the majority vote there and a bunch of people cheered to which Zach said "Firefly" and then saluted the crowd.

-- Yvonne said they did some promotion of the show in Australia and it was weird because some of the journalists there thought she was American and were surprised by the accent. She also said that she had trouble in the pilot pronouncing the word "nerd" so she said "geek" instead, which got us to that cute reaction from Gomez and Zach of "Well, we're more nerds, you know? Nerd Herd."

-- This led to a nerd vs. geek discussion to which McG said he believes the difference is Joss Whedon is a geek and JJ Abrams is a nerd.

-- Some involved question Damon got from a TV writer about Sarah's Weinerlicious outfit representing Germans in Chuck's quasi-Jewish world. "Or it's just hot." The panel agreed with that.

-- They're going back to Comic Con! Season two starts filming in May and the writers went back to work today!!!!!

-- Fedak originally called show "Scenerio Five" but thought it wasn't catchy enough. Was reading Chuck Klosterman at the time and said "What if our main character was Chuck and we called the show Chuck?"

-- Josh realized there were alot of Chucks at the time with "Good Luck Chuck" and Chuck from Pushing Daisies, "but we won."

-- Josh wants Van Damme for season premiere, Chris wants Dolf Lundgren.

-- Proust questionaire
Chris Fedak's favorite word: douchebag [me too!]
Adam Baldwin's least favorite word: intolerance
Scott Krinsky's [Jeff] favorite sound: waves of the ocean
Julia Ling's [Anna] least favorite sound: wet squishy boots
Ryan McPartlin's [Awesome] creativity comes from: football [joking]
Vik Sahay's [Lester] profession he would love: to be McG
Mark Christopher Lawrence's [Big Mike] least favorite job: [i didn't get this one]
McG's favorite swear word: f---
Josh Schwartz's words from God when he gets to Heaven: Chuck was picked up for season three. [Zach: Doesn't that mean you're going to die next year?]
Josh Gomez [Morgan] Voltron vs. Godzilla: Godzilla [Zach: You are so wrong.]
Zack Levi [Chuck] Chuck vs. Chuck: Would go real deep, then remember Lester is the anti-Chuck.
Yvonne Strahovski [Sarah] Are you having fun?: [deadpan] No

Questions from the audience

How often do you use Awesome in real life? Tries not to use it as much in real life, only a couple dozen times a day on the low side

Bromance? No love more pure between one man and another, says Josh.

What about making something more butch like a Batmobile? Nerd Herder will suffice, or maybe a Chuck wagon.

Is it true you ate a cheesesteak before kissing Yvonne? Zach: Yes. They were sent in from Philly and "I was hungry." But he did grab a few Altoids before the scene.

You put me to shame! Were you writing notes? You got so much stuff down. You even cleared up some of the stuff I didn't catch, and I was in the front row!

Very thorough write-up, the people who missed the panel would get a very good picture of this event through your words. Kudos to you!

Yes, I was taking notes. I'm such a nerd. Or is it geek? ;)

Mark's answer was a janitor...

Nice recap (much better than I can remember right now.)

::sigh:: Why not both Van Damme & Lundgren? :D

You win at delivering the details!

HAHAHA I don't know why, but I just absolutely love the "I was hungry." That's probably cause that's what I say most of the time.

I seem to remember Yvonne mentioning that on Carson Daly and saying that she slapped him after they called "cut".

The way he said it was just adorable too. It was a very defensive "I was hungry" as in an "I was starving and needed food and it was there!" kind of way.

It wasn't my word -- Josh mentioned it originally and we all loved it for good reason!

or maybe a Chuck wagon

Okay, that made me laugh. A lot. Chuck in a cowboy hat would be hot, tho.

And what did that TV writer mean by Chuck's quasi-Jewish world? Any idea?

Thanks for the notes from Paley Fest. It sure sounded like fun!

I think it was one of those tongue-in-cheek versions of a way long existential question that ended with "or she's just hot." It was much more awesome than I have explained it.

that was one of my favorite moments of the night, actually. i thought damon's reading of the question and the various reactions of the cast as he was reading it were hilarious. the writer is alan sepinwall. he has a great blog (and a great sense of humour), though i haven't yet read to see if he's updated it to include anything about paley.
